Most days, we’re busy in the skies, capturing real estate magic, mapping construction sites, checking rooftops, or scanning farmland. But the truth? The most memorable moments often happen on the ground.

Neighbors notice. People get curious. And sometimes, their reactions are the best part of the whole flight. Over the years, we’ve seen everything from laughter to concern to wide-eyed wonder. Here are a few of the craziest (and friendliest) encounters we’ve had while piloting drones around Washington.

“Is That a UFO?” When Our Drone Looked Like a Visitor from Space

During a twilight shoot over a waterfront home in Edmonds, a neighbor flagged us down. The blinking lights in the sky? They were convinced we’d stumbled onto something extraterrestrial.

We landed, shared our FAA credentials, and showed them the live feed. Fear quickly turned to fascination. What started as “UFO panic” ended with smiles and curiosity.

“I Thought the Power Line Was Alive” A Close Call That Wasn’t

On a rooftop inspection, a neighbor started waving wildly at us, convinced our drone was about to hit a power line. In reality, we were well clear and carefully mapped out.

We landed to chat, walked them through our screen, and explained how we plan safe flight paths. By the end, their worry had turned into admiration, and maybe even a bit of drone envy.

That’s also why we run Flight Club at Edmonds Community College, where Archer and Caleb teach piloting, safety, and drone etiquette. It’s about building a culture of responsible flying, for hobbyists, business owners, and future drone professionals alike.
